The Joybird Design Shop was a strategy and design for the first physical experiences for the online retailer Joybird. Joybird is an online furniture retailer offering high-quality, responsibly sourced furniture that can be customized through an extensive range of fabric options and numerous furniture designs. All products are built on-demand and can be customized to match the customers’ room design. 


Design Made was engaged to conceive of the experience strategy and design prototype for Joybird’s physical stores. The experience needed to be mutable to range of scales and sizes, allowing Joybrid to explore different store models and quickly move in and out of markets. It is often a challenge for retailers who begin online to move into the capital-heavy and permanence of brick-and-mortar stores. We worked with Joybird to develop a core experience consisting of the Joybird story, the ability to customize, and the product. The experience is then manifest through a scalable design that with a range of implementation options.
